Playtime!

Marie and Ty have been playing a TON together. It is very sweet. There is a ton of running and crashing, fights that are quickly over, laughing and yelling and goofing around. Ty basically wants to say, do and imitate everything Marie does. Marie, being the oldest, has no qualms ordering Ty around. Ty is loud and playful and creative, Marie is louder and willing to try anything and quick to help him out. One of their favorites is sitting in the play baby stroller and pushing each other around the house at an alarming rate of speed.

The other day they created this new game:

Marie builds a tower with the number blocks.

Ty waits patiently with the baby stroller.

She gets out of the way of danger and counts "1-2-3"

Ty makes short work of the tower. Repeat.
Good times!

Family Ski Day...

long underwear and layers
snow pants, hats, gloves
pack a lunch
pack the gear in the car
pack the kids in the car
drive to ski hill
unpack the lunch, gear and kids
get ski boots on kids
get kids to hill
get skis on kids...
SKI

Ty waves as he ascends the hill on the "magic carpet."
I can ski uphill faster than the magic carpet goes so I take advantage of that to get some pix.

Marie warming up. She wanted to ski with Ty but also knew that she was heading over to the chairlift.

As we got closer to the chairlift, Marie started to insist that her "legs hurt." Of course, that's because you don't want to go up the chair. "I am scared." "Yes you are. Everyone is the first time but you can do it." As we got closer we started to ask all the kids in line, "Is it hard?" the consensus was definite NO. So she bravely moved forward to the front of the line and got on the chair. Three seconds into it she laughs and says, "This is FUN!"
Yesssssss!!!!
Did it!!! Now, on to the hill.
Today we used the harness which has a handle on the back so I can lift her and two straps so I can ski behind her and steer or stop as needed. We loved the harness as it gave her freedom to ski but didn't hurt me too much. We did a few long easy runs and then called it a day.

Celebratory hot chocolate!

Princess Tea

Arts and Crafts to start the party off. Check out her major LA bling on her finger.

The centerpieces were adorable. Everything was well thought out!

Getting our nails done!

Every girl was given a tea cup to decorate and 3 adorable cookies. The largest one is missing from the shot as the plate didn't hit the table before Marie grabbed it.

Raffle Prize!

Well done.
She knew she was going to a "Princess Tea Party." She didn't know that, upon arrival, the door would be opened by (*gasp*) teenage boys in tuxes, who would greet her, take her coat and start the party off right. She didn't know that (*gasp*) the Cherry Queen would be there and she got to have her photo taken with her sitting on a mini-throne. Oh my...after all the fun of getting ready, doing hair, getting all fancied up, after waking up at 6am in excitement and singing spontaneously, "Zippidy doo dah! Zippidy yay! My oh my what a WONDERFUL day" we finally made it to the Princess Tea Party held by the cast of "Beauty and the Beast" at St. Francis High School.

What an event. The cafeteria was packed and the did an amazing job making it very special for each little princess. The high schoolers were amazing. The girls were given tours of the set. The characters were dressed up in costume and acting just perfect in their roles. The supporting crew entertained the girls by doing their nails or helping with arts and crafts. Plus, the coffee smelled and tasted great so Momma made it too!

Marie was lucky enough to even win a raffle prize. Boy, I was worried and did a lot of talking to her beforehand about how there were about one hundred girls and 15 raffle prizes; the odds were not good. Yet, 4 of the 5 girls at our table won a prize! That poor little 5th girl; her Momma was trying to make it into a life lesson but it was a bit much! Marie was coaxed into sharing some of hers with the luckless soul. We now only have 1200 princess stickers in the house; how will we get by? (OH... NOT JOKING, THANK YOU UNCLE JEFF) Anyways, she was thrilled to have won princess pj's and slippers, yet another wand, sunglasses, t-shirt and more stickers. Oh my oh my oh my. Could not believe her luck!

Then, we sipped our tea and enjoyed our cookies as the cast sang a selection from the musical. Marie has not stopped asking about Gaston, the mean guy who tries to woo Belle. I have had to explain to her repeatedly that Gaston is NOT good, that he wasn't considerate of Belle and her interests and family...and it is lost on her. sigh. Maybe after she sees the entire musical she will get it; must do some mental prep before then.

A lovely day! A lovely memory! Is it true that she won't be 5 forever???

Santa Came To Town

Ty's daycare had a lovely Christmas party tonight. It was a potluck at a local park and such a nice time. We had to scramble to get there (seemed to be scrambling a lot lately) as today is M's dance class but we made it before the Big Guy. My children would be the ones in dance attire and filthy sweatshirt and the poopy diaper. Yes, the grubby ones in the back. Other people got their child out early, brought them home and dressed them in fancy outfits, see the dresses and sweater vests? Not a high point on the Momma-scale tonight. But we made it, no shoes and all.
At first, my two little ones were not too sure about the Big Guy. But I think there was safety in numbers because when they could approach him as part of a group, they were great. Marie even decided she wanted to be his helper. That is huge for her. She is starting to be a lot more comfortable and confident in new situations and that is just awesome to see!
It was sooo sweet how they wanted to sit together and be together during the Santa visit! They are such good little buddies!
Ty decided he really did want to catch Santa's eye so he stood up and gave a little wave.

All the kiddos were given a scarf with their name on it and a candy cane. Perfect.
Marie loved hers. She made short work of the candy and then danced with the scarf for the rest of the evening.

Santa has a rather bizarre accent. At times he spoke clear American Midwest English but then he would switch into a Scottish brogue and then some sort of almost Australian accent...I guess he is such an International Guy that this is to be expected. He looked good, though.

Afterwards was a bit of play time and SOMEONE is a huuuuge HAM!

Snow Day!

"Painted rocks"
"Sticker Work"
"Dance Party"
"Snack Time"
...all before 11am!!!

Yikes! What's a Momma to do? Frankly it was too cold to go out.

But, Marie came up with a (mostly good) plan. Fort-making.

We take our fort making a little too seriously.

Especially when you have an in-house anti-fort contingent, AKA the little brother.
But, he can be distracted.

Sadly, so can Momma.

What to do?

What do you do when you wake up to a foot of snow in the driveway?
First you spend nearly an hour getting everyone dressed to go outside. Multiple layers of pants, socks, shirts, etc and then you start on the outside gear. After several more minutes and layers, you all head outside to sled. (For the record, I felt his hands, feet, etc when he came in and the ONLY cold part of his entire body was his cheeks so we did well in the layering dept).

Marie and our neighbor on the sledding hill.

Ty had a hard time walking...

Soup and hot chocolate for all at the end!

FIVE!!! PM

Marie's Bday, pt 2

And then the school day ended so we headed downtown. We had a skillfully planned dinner at Bubbas. This means that Momma and the kiddos showed up just as the meal was served since Daddy got there prior and ordered. Ahhhh..parental teamwork!!!

We then walked a few blocks down to the enormous Christmas tree that sits at the center of our downtown. A certain Christmas celebrity meets the Mayor and flips the switch to turn on the tree for the season and well, we to to be right *there* as he walked by and greeted Marie personally! She was quite stunned! We also ran into her classmate and his mother and their 8 mo old. Daddy was trying to catch up to them and couldn't get through the crowds. We were thrilled to be her extra set of hands; isn't it amazing how that works out? Marie was just tickled to have a buddy to spend this occasion with and we could assist and lift him up as needed so he could see. You can see she was just thrilled with it all...

Ty, of course, loves anything new that he can do with his family and his beloved "Dee Dee." Since she was happy and having fun, he thought it was magnificent!!!!

Hey, look! Momma was there too! Same hat and coat as last year!!!

We walked back to the parking deck where our cars were and got the kids buckled in. Then I took them for a drive to see the lights. At one point, shortly into the drive, I look in the rear view mirror and Ty is babbling away while Marie has drifted into a deep sleep. She was out for the night!!! So we opened her gifts first thing in the AM. She was thrilled with all of them!!! Thank you!

FIVE!!! AM

According to Marie, she is NOT Five today; she is "turning five." Not sure what this means but I believe it will serve her well in her forties! This is her early descent.

She quickly started to soak up and appreciate the attention. Her special birthday breakfast of sausage with a candle and a waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream slipped on down. Her Baptismal Candle is lit in front of her presents. Thank YOU to Uncle Jeff and Aunt Abby for adding to her gifts!

At school they do a special Birthday Celebration. The parents read about each year of the child's life and the child takes a globe and circles the "sun" to represent the passing of the year. "The Earth goes round the Sun; the Earth goes around the Sun. It takes 12 months to go around and now Marie is...(one)." So she orbited the sun 5 times to represent her age. Needless to say, a certain Momma was c-h-o-k-e-d up at this.

Proud Parents with the Big Kid at School

Daddy can appreciate a Good Birthday Crown; what a Man.

One Quick B-day Pict

Marie enjoying her new favorite toy and Ty trying to shoehorn his way in. (It is dark so the red glow can be seen in the pict). Thanks, Uncle Jeff!

A few more...

This is how we spent our day...

Can YOU do Taco Tongue?

Jim can, we think Ty can and Marie and Momma are no's.

Turkey Day

Marie helping herself to noodles. She opted for noodles, broccoli, sweet potatoes and at the end she tried some stuffing and decided it was good. Took a bite of cranberries and was not a fan. I love the smoke in the image.

Ty enjoying his water. He ate peas (that he went to get out of the freezer himself), noodles and stuffing. Both tried turkey and...no go.

Before food. All were napping but Momma. Lions were winning against the Patriots until Daddy woke up. Once he started to watch, the Lions returned to normalcy.

Kiddos doing some funny moves while they were watching the parade.

Parade watching.

What do you call it when you have an 18lb bird and only two adults eating it? Yeah, I don't know either but our fridge is f-u-l-l. Why? Because I wanted fresh and the way the coupon worked out it was actually cheaper to buy an 18lb bird than the smaller bird. Needless to say, we have lunch and dinner for a while.

All pitched in. Jim and Marie made dessert together; Marie also helped with cranberries and the corn casserole. Ty made the salads and noodles. Momma did the rest and Daddy has started the clean up. Momma passed out after dinner with the kiddos on either side of her, watching a video. As I write this, Marie is next to me in her PJ's. She just squirmed and said, "THAT was a great dinner!" So I guess we did well.

We traced all our hands in brown paper bag and cut them out. On our hands, we wrote down what we are thankful for. Marie and Ty are thankful for: rice, rice cakes, telephones, choo-choos and Momma and Dada. I was worried we weren't going to make the list! We snuck in on the last round. PHEW

Hope your day was wonderful! We are thankful for friends and family like you!
